Local Governments Support Opening ANWR PDF Print E-mail
The State of Alaska receives 85% of its annual revenue from oil taxes and royalties, helping to fund education, infrastructure and needed community projects. Recognizing Alaska's dependency on resource development, Alaska's Congressional Delegation, Governor's Office, Alaska Legislature, and many city governments have endorsed Arctic Power, a non-profit citizens organization formed for the sole purpose of advocating for the development of ANWR. The board and staff of Arctic Power work closely with them to coordinate the congressional education and outreach efforts across the country.

City & Borough Governments Support Opening the Coastal Plain of ANWR

City governments in Alaska support exploration and development on the Coastal Plain of ANWR. They understand the direct benefits to communities that nearly 30 years of oil and gas development on the North Slope has brought to them in the form of jobs, tax base, state funds for local roads, schools, public buildings and services. Many individuals from local governments have participated in education visits around the country.

Alaska Legislature
The Alaska Legislature officially endorsed responsible oil and gas development on the Coastal Plain of ANWR. Once again the House and Senate demonstrated their strong committment to development on the Coastal Plain by approving the resolution 17-0 in the Senate and in the House. Members of the Alaska legislature participate in Arctic Power's education and promotion trips across the country and also spend considerable time in Washington, DC meeting with congressional members and staff, testifying at committee hearings, participating in numerous public forums. Historically, the legislature has provided funding for many of the education and advocacy programs of Arctic Power.
