A good example of the oil industry working to lessen the footprint of development occured at Kaktovik. Drilling operations in the well were completed in April of 1986; all traces of development was removed during the summer of 1986 and the area was revegetated.
Construction of the ice road and airstrip began in December of 1984, the well was spudded in mid-february 1985 and drilling operations were suspended in early May of that year. The road and airstrip were reconstructed in late November of 1985 and drilling resumed. Drilling operations in the well were completed in April of 1986; timbers and foam insulation used under the rig were removed during the summer of 1986 and that area was revegetated. |
