Dems calls for Alaska drilling
WASHINGTON -- In a clear break with their party's presidential ticket, Democratic Senate candidates from three oil-producing states held a news conference Thursday to reiterate their support for an energy bill that authorizes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
U.S. Rep. Chris John, D-Crowley, who is seeking to replace retiring Sen. John Breaux in Louisiana, joined candidates from Alaska and Oklahoma to express strong disagreement with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's opposition to oil and gas exploration in the Alaskan refuge.
