The Caribou Con: In Search of ANWR Truth.
Today the Center for Individual Freedom released a comprehensive in-depth report on the history of the Gwich’in Indians and the Porcupine Caribou Herd debate on ANWR. The report details the past leasing of the entire Gwich’in tribal lands by the Gwich’in elders for oil and gas exploration. Quoting the actual oil leases the Gwich’in signed, and following up with an analysis of the calving history of the caribou, the report illuminates the flip-flop stance by the Gwich’in in favor of their own oil development, and against the resource uses of their northern neighbors the Inupiat Eskimos.
