Working in Washington, DC Arctic Power represents and champions expansion of oil gas development in Alaska’s Arctic. For the first quarter of 2013, Arctic Power has been quite active. We reached out to 80 offices in the U.S. House of Representatives to share the viewpoint of 78% of Alaskans, 59 members of Alaska’s State Legislature, and the majority of Alaska’s Natives to discuss energy exploration on federal lands.

Arctic Power February/March Update

The beginning of 2013 has seen significant action involving Alaska’s north slope. Regarding the outer continental shelf, we are hopeful that Shell will continue to upgrade their equipment as quickly as possible in order to continue their plan of exceeding federal and state requirements. Doing this will prove to the country and to the world that Arctic energy development, whether onshore or off, can be done safely.

Petition to Open the Alaskan 1002 Coastal Plain

The Alaskan 1002 Coastal Plain was set aside by the U.S. Congress specifically for energy exploration. It is believed that this piece of land, roughly 1.5 million acres, contains billions of barrels of oil. All legislation related to the 1002 Coastal Plain calls for a limit of 2,000 surface acres for equipment and site pads. This means that less than 1% of the 1002 Coastal Plain would be impacted by surface development. This stretch of land is immediately next to state land where the same development has existed for decades.
