ANWR POLL RESULTS
Q.1. The Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge, usually referred to as ANWR, is located on the northern
edge of Alaska between Prudhoe Bay and the Canadian border. What is your
opinion, do you feel oil and gas exploration should or should not be allowed
in that area?
Should 75%
Should Not 23%
Unsure 3%
1a. If answered should not
or unsure: There’s a new way to explore for oil called "three-dimensional
seismic" which uses computers and has very little effect on the ground.
If the "three-dimensional seismic" approach is used, would you
support or oppose oil and gas exploration in "an-war"?
Support 36%
Oppose 52%
Unsure 12%
Q.2. With the price of oil
so low, some people say it’s a bad time to explore in ANWR because there’s
too much oil now and we don’t need any more; while other people say it
takes ten years from exploring for oil to producing it, and if there is
any oil in ANWR, we need to find out because we’ll probably need it ten
years from now. What’s your opinion - is now a good time or a bad
time to explore for oil in ANWR?
Good time 75%
Bad time 22%
Unsure 3%
Q. 3. So far, no one knows
for sure how much oil may be in ANWR. Some people estimate billions of
barrels, while other people say there’s a good chance there isn’t any.
What’s your personal best guess - are you optimistic that there may be
a huge amount of oil, or are you more pessimistic that there may be almost
none at all?
Optimistic/huge 79%
Pessimistic/none 9%
Unsure 12%
